Howya! Dia duit ó Éirinn!

Hello. New to this forum. EI6JHB from Ireland.

I do love a good 'OTA. Mostly parks (POTA), beaches (BOTA), summits (SOTA) and the occasional smattering of flora twixt fauna!

I might have an opportunity for an IOTA soon and also a MOTA. I’m also looking in to setting up a kite - let’s unofficially call it KOTA to stick with the theme) and also investigating pico APRS balloons (BLOTA?).

Outside of radio I enjoy endurance sports - iron distance triathlon, ultramarathons etc (no I don’t resemble Daley Thompson or Joe Skipper, proof that ordinary John/Jane/Non-Binary folks can do hard stuff too!).

Watching football (and that other ‘football’ too, NFL), MLB - Mets, NBA - Knicks and so on.

Lots of reading. More non-fiction than fiction. Last book read was excellent - People Hacker by Jenny Radcliffe. Also highly recommend the Themis trilogy by Sylvain Neuvel, or anything by Peter F Hamilton.

Currently learning Morse Code and Gailge.

My shack? Don’t have one. It’s all portable as I can’t facilitate a shack at the QTH.

Gear? Currently:

Yaesu FT-891 - Full fat, all the trimmings (including the FH-2 keyboard thing, GOD TIER accessory, buy one!). I love this radio so much I’m going to be buried with it.

MAT-30 Tuner - Shame they haven’t made a LUKE-30 Tuner. I don’t think they made one for the ginger lad nobody talks about that played bass.

JPC PAC-12 - It’s an absolute CHAMP. Does everything I ask of it and more. It could probably make a fantastic fondue stick n’all.

Chameleon LEFS 8010 - It promises the world. I can’t wait to use it. So far all I’ve managed is to get it stuck up a tree. Soon come!

Tidradio H3 x 2 and H8 x 1 - They’re alright, but I’m not mad about them. Have a Yaesu FT65E on the way. No point buying something flashy and expensive, no sod uses 2m and 70cm any more.

Tecsun PL-330 - I love a flip through the World Radio Handbook 2024 and a bit of SWL. Have a few eQSL and real QSL cards from it so far.

Other stuff:

Home made speaker wire banana plug GP EFHW for 20m. Not brave enough to test it out yet. 2 x masts from Wimo and Decathlon respectively. 7.5m each. Not used yet. I can’t guy for toffee.

Genuine Nagoya 771 and Diamond RH770. Love these. Don’t need anything else really for 2 and 70.

Also have other stuff like The Yaesu data kit - SCU-17 I think it is? A Bunch of guy lines, tent pegs and so on. Finally, a Nano VNA H4 and also a Uniden 125XLT with Moonraker Mk3 Skyscanner.

Stuff in the post:

Slim G from Spectrum in UK. Should arrive any day now. Also a Flexfoil camera kite for KOTA, due any day. 10m mast from Wimo and a lightweight drive over mast holder. Both from Wimo. 2m band pass filter from Ali Express.

So there ye have it. That’s all for now!

Welcome to the forum. I’m looking forward to that first CW S2S with you!

I hope you mean GAA and IRFU.

Rugby? Good God no! :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Don’t mind a bit of GAA though, being an ex-pat and all that. GAA football and hurling are great to watch.

Love a bit of film as well. Mostly 1970’s Italian crime films (called Poliziotteschi) or anything cult and niche (remember when Jonathan Ross presented a show on Channel 4 before the premiere of Akira on telly?). Odd film formats and soundtracks too. I have a fairly extensive Laserdisc collection - not your run of the mill mainstream films, no, I prefer stuff like 3D tech demos, DTS and AC-3 demo discs, cult films pre-BBFC, I even have a Laserdisc thats 45 minutes long and just background video of fields full of buttercups and alpine milka cows while someone narrates the entire Japanese railway consitiution (in Japanese) over said picturesque scenery. Glorious.

Yes, CW S2S would be fantastic! I’m doing 145 Alive as well. I may only have had my license since May this year, but I want to get involved and help out - and learn - as much as I can, find where my interests are and shake it out from there.

Possibly like most other folks, radio is secondary to everything else. Radio is worked around my life, not the other way round. Fit the time for radio in when I can, so nearly all my radio work is opportunistic, but still ever so much fun!

Oh well, never mind. I can’t decide which is the most boring, soccer or NFL.

Semi-agree on the NFL. CFL can be more entertaining as the downs are shorter (think it’s 3 instead of 4) and it moves faster. Still the same advert breaks every minus 5 seconds though. If you had to pay a TV license in the USA I’d be livid!
