How to waste an evening

How to waste an evening. Discover that Microsoft’s Bing mapping has got more up to date and more higher resolution aerial imagery than Google maps. Then you discover that the Bird’s Eye View data is included and you spend hours looking at summits you’ve climbed or not.

Sorry for the GM centric view, but that’s were I climb. I’m sure there is similar data for other parts of the world.

  1. Carn mor Dearg arrete and Ben Nevis
  1. The Buckle (Buachaille Etive Mor), Creise, Meall a’Bhuiridh
  1. Bridge of Orchy Munros and Corbetts

I’ll stop now, my awesomeness appreciation gland is throbbing

Interesting. Looks as if the photography might be from an aeroplane rather than a satellite as building angles are a bit weird. Had a look at my qth (with foresight you can spot my antennas, not easy) but it looks as if the view angle is definitely from the south west.

What happened to the cloud - normally GM is covered in the wretched stuff!!!

PS: might be satellite after all, at a certain magnification there are unmapped strips and the colours of adjacent strips are different

shows this near my home

It depends which part of the country you are looking at. In Birds Eye view around my home the images are at least 2 years old while they are a bit more recent in Aerial view except at the highest resolution - as you go from second highest to highest resolution the XYL’s current car disappears to be replaced by her old car and the patio in my garden disappears as well. It must be a phased development as Google resolution is far higher here. In our area Google also has history back to 1945, which is a wonderful way to waste more than an evening - must be from Aerial photos.
