Hello from the North Pennines

Hello, I think I may be a SOTA addict!

I started in early-July under my foundation M7 call-sign M7IMF, I was inspired to start as I QSO’d with another M7 station who activated G/TW-001 Urra Moor.
The very next day, I went out with my son (4) and activated G/NP-008 Great Whernside.

Well that was it.

So far I have activated:
12/07/2020 G/NP-008 Great Whernside
18/07/2020 G/NP-028 Rombalds Moor
25/07/2020 G/TW-001 Urra Moor
01/08/2020 G/NP-032 Cracoe Fell
09/08/2020 G/TW-002 Cringle Moor
13/08/2020 G/NP-004 Whernside
15/08/2020 G/NP-010 Pen-y-Ghent
22/08/2020 G/TW-003 Gisborough Moor
22/08/2020 G/TW-004 Bishop Wilton Wold
22/08/2020 G/TW-005 Normanby Top

I am planning to activate G/NP-005 Ingleborough tomorrow 2020-08-29 around 11:00UTC.

It took a few goes to get G/TW-004 on VHF and so I picked up a second hand Elecraft KX3 for HF activations.

Very happy to have activated all the G/TW summits and now looking to completed G/NP and start to activate G/LD as conditions and fitness allow.

My son and daughter have accompanied me on most of my activations. SOTA has allowed me to re-connect with a dormant area of my life, my late father was a serious caver and mountaineer. The medium of radio has got me out of my chair and back onto the hills. Thank you.

Well done
Like you I have rediscovered mountains and radio. I am only about half way through the NP summits and hopefully will be on G/NP-012 on Sunday Morning. My favourite is still Wild Boar Fell G/NP-007. Nice views, path to walk up not a stream and looks like a mountain with some craggy bits, as well as good take off. Hope for a S2S soon! Paul

It does look a bit like it :slightly_smiling_face:
There are many worse activities to be addicted to and Viki, M6BWA/P, and I have very much enjoyed 10 years of activation addiction which has taken us to many interesting parts of UK… Hope to get you in the log before too long.

Welcome Alistair. Just out of interest, where was your 3rd photo taken? Was it Rombalds Moor?
Best wishes,

G/NP-008 Great Whernside. Rombalds Moor is quite flat!

:grinning: it’s always been too poor to see the view when I’ve been there! There are some big rocks and I wondered if they were what your picture was of. Thanks, I’ll have to revisit Gt Whernside to refresh my memory
