On August 16th it was my 65th birthday, and I had decided to celebrate it with a new SOTA activation (New One)
The chosen target was I/TO-054 Monte Buceto (1168 m).
The ascent was reasonable (about 450 m), but the total hike was more than 14 km: not exactly a stroll, but still manageable.
When I finally got a view of the summit, I felt optimistic: the profile looked gentle and the last section seemed to promise an easy climb. Unfortunately, that was an illusion. Along the entire perimeter I found barbed wire fences and signs saying “Private Land – No Access”, with no gaps or gates anywhere.
At one point the fence ended and I tried to climb up, but after only a few dozen meters I was forced to give up because of impenetrable thorn bushes.
The screenshot I took makes it clear: I was less than 500 meters from the summit and just a few dozen meters from the Activation Zone, but with no real possibility of reaching it. A real pity.
I’m sharing this post so that other activators won’t waste time and energy on this summit in the future
