It’s taken me 16 years to reach 250 activator points. I think I might be heading for the slowest ever Mountain Goat, I wonder who holds the record for “Sloth Goat” @GM4LLD.
A tricky question (but interesting thought experiment) since measuring over time is not reliable as it can be contrived to break any time based records.
I think a average point per scoring activation meaure would be more reflective.
My activation record:-
First activation on 07th March 2004 so in terms of time you are racing ahead of me
. At my rate I would expect to reach MG somewhere around 2169 (although I may slow down as I get older).
I have 82 activations, but only 57 scoring with 25 repeats and 0 failed to get 4. This leads to 133 activator points. This is 103 summit points + 30 winter bonus points.
Slowest sloth goat would be 1000x1point summits or an average of 1point per scoring activation.
So I’m averaging 2.33 points per scoring activation if we include the winter bonus and 1.8 excludig it.
So, I would say the formula for slowest would be:-
(total activator points - winter bonus points) / number of scoring activations
Obviously this could only be applied to activators with over 1000 activator points, but could be applied to those with say 10 or more activations to take out the skewed nature of those with single activations or just starting off.
In the 900s and then stop for near 10 years ![]()
You do you. Doesn’t matter when you get there. It’s only a hobby.
When I saw the thread title I thought that it would be about people achieving both MG and SS, the much-respected Complete Sotarians!
Achieved through QSOs made only while activating? ![]()
I was thinking of “duration” rather than time. In other words how many elapsed days from getting the first activator point(s) until 1000 is reached.
Obviously the record could be beaten by someone taking more elapsed days to reach their Mountain Goat.
I think you took me along for my first activation when you did your second, and I’m not even at a hundred points yet. Wasn’t there a site which could do activation rate graphs somewhere relatively recently?
No, that is probably S-S territory with its own award. I mean people who have earned both trophies, MG and at home SS, though SS is almost trivial nowadays - in the early days it took years!
you are probably thinking of https://wengoat.gm5alx.uk/
Ah, yes. “At historical rate (0.1 pts/wk) 23 March 2126”
I also thought the thread would be about people with both MG and SS awards.
Interestingly, the activation where I achieved MG I also achieved SS, the latter to my surprise as I wasn’t tracking chaser points. I wonder if anyone else has had that happen.
More on topic, the great Chuck @K4QS founded the W4V association in 2011 and achieved Mountain Goat only last year. I suppose that, at the time he did that, it was the theoretical slothiest MG for the association ![]()
I guess that kind of timing would be tricky to plan. Best that it happens by lucky chance. ![]()
I would be interested to know the oldest attainment of MG status. I have a bit of a vested interest as at my present rate of progress I will be 80 if/when I get there! 73 John
But it doesn’t matter Colin. The points are just icing on the cake of being part of the community. Partaking is the important part.
Indeed, but the awards and stats are something to contemplate when the weather is too disgusting to head out.
