Hello everyone
Tomorrow Sunday, Hans, HB9BQU, and I are flying to the Canary Islands for two weeks. We will be on Tenerife island from March 8 to 14 and on Gran Canaria island from March 14 to 21. We will mainly be activating SOTA summits and some parks (POTA). Of course, we will both be delighted to work any station from EA8 summits.
We will not be sharing our exact times and frequencies on this reflector. However, we will certainly be posting our details on sotawatch and, where applicable, on the POTA website https://pota.app (menu item: Spots).
We expect to be QRV for 1-2 hours around noon more or less every day except Saturday March 14 when we switch islands. We may also activate two easy summits on the same day from time to time; in this case, we will probably be QRV in the late morning and sometime in the afternoon. We will be QRV on shortwave, mainly on the upper frequencies, 20m, 17m, 15m, and 10m. As far as equipment is concerned, we will obviously be using simple portable antennas (end-fed wire antenna or vertical telescopic antenna) and typically around 10 watts in SSB. Hans also does CW, I only do SSB.
I can’t say anything more specific at the moment, as this will be the first time either of us has been active on EA8 and we don’t know exactly what to expect there.
Hopefully, Wednesday, March 11, will be a highlight, since on that day, we want to activate Teide, Spain’s highest mountain at 3715m. Whether this will be possible depends mainly on the weather. And unfortunately, we don’t yet know for sure whether we will be able / allowed to transmit on shortwave up there. 2m FM for local QSOs will probably be possible.
We look forward to many QSOs with interested stations!
“See* you on the air.
