'Handy' tip for when it's taters out...

So I’m sat here revelling in scalding heat. I’m not near the equator, I’m not using those hand warmers that look like oversized teabags that are in Dealz/Poundland, I’m not using a hot water bottle, a bean bag type thing you chuck in the microwave or any other gubbins.

I got given a prezzie today from the XYL that at first glance I thought was a load of new age cobblers. So when I went out for a bit of radio this arvo, I forgot my gloves and also left this thing I was given at home.

Today, while playing radio, it was so taters out there I swear to God I saw a bloke light a cigarette and the flame on his lighter froze.

Got home, took a cursory peek in the carrier bag housing said aforementioned gift. Walked off and made a cup of tea. Tutted about something to do with Stonehenge and meditation balls.

…and now as I sit here, writing this ramble, bathed in scorching, searing heat that is like washing myself in a sea of steaming, poisonous MAGMA… oh how I wish I had believed the XYL and took this thing with me!

Behold, when you are out playing radio and its so cold you swear you just saw a brass monkey crying its eyes out, get one of these:

The XYL got me this:

All you’ve to do is click a titanium disc floating in the liquid. The liquid turns white and solid and is literally scorching anything in to volcanic lava instantly. And I mean instantly.

I assume it is some sort of chemical reaction going on, but who cares. It is epic.

Don’t mind this bit of new age marketing cobblers. It is just glorious, searing heat. Think hotter than a hot water bottle and lasts ages and is instant heat (literally the second you click the disc, it’s unreal):

“You will wake up in the morning feeling alive, rejuvenated, energized and focused.”

If you’re on a summit or just out and about, definitely take one of these Clix things with you. I thought Clix was named after vending machines, but that is Klix apparently.

Sounds like a shill/influencer/youtubedontforgettolikeandsubscribe post, and I apologise. It isn’t.

Just get one. Beyond highly recommended. :+1:

NOTE: You can get Clix heavily discounted at airports, or get non-branded ones on Amazon etc. No idea if they work as well though. YMMV.

There is an old anecdotal sentence, playing around similar meaning, but with different outcome: "When you over forty and waking up in the morning feeling alive, rejuvenated, energized and focused, then you perhaps left this world already”

I’ve read some reviews on these products, and I will be very interested in your experience after a few uses.

You’re twisting my melon man. Far out! :star_struck:

Yes, these things are a fraction of the price on Amazon etc. XYL got the Clix one in a Christmas sale.

Don’t think I’d trust myself to DIY them, I’d probably end up getting the knock at 3am for unknowingly formulating some sort of atomic matter.

The instant (and absolutely roasting) heat is a game changer. Never seen these types of warmers before. I guess there was some sort of patent that expired, hence all the nameless variants available.

I wouldn’t trust you with crayons and paper.

That’s sewn in to the collar of my coat…along with my name. :face_with_peeking_eye:

These sound very much like the ramblers / campers / first aid warming packs that have been around at least 20 years if not longer - here are some on Amazon:

I’m sure these will be available from any hiking/camping supplies shop.

As for “new age,” there are also lithium-battery-powered heated stones, which were featured on this reflector last winter; those also act as a spare battery to charge your smartphone from if you run its battery flat. I have one of those in my SOTA rucksack as it’s great to warm frozen fingers when out on a summit in winter.

Gave the thing a bit of a workout by using and resetting it about 5 or 6 times now. Works a treat and heat lasts even longer (it states this on the instruction sheet that it takes a couple of resets to max the heat out).

Resetting it is simple enough. About 10 minutes in a pan of boiling water to liquify it again. Leave it out to cool, or use it while it cools as the reset liquid stays super hot so theoretically you could use the reset liquid heat, then snap the disc to activate and get more use out of it this way.

No issues with tears or melting or any quirks so far. Definitely wouldn’t (and didn’t) pay the asking price, but heavily discounted (think the XYL got it in a Christmas clearance sale at 75% off) I think it is worth it, or pick up one of the no name versions.
