Yup. Think we’re up to 13 across the UK. 2m and 40m should be fun!
I’m not fixated but…
I’ve just realised that the nearest tea room after coming down Arthur’s seat is at the Palace. I wonder what their hot chocolate is like ?

I feel a TROTA coming on. Wonder if anyone’s activated Peckham?
@MM0EFI Fraser I was thinking of heading up Snaefell GD/GD-001 or GD/GD-002 (the one I can’t pronounce). Maybe another GD. Does anyone here have any preference?
Now if @G4VFL Andrew wasn’t in his own wee world and brought his alert for Craigowl hill forward, he’d have a great haul of S2S to go along with QO-100 and ųw stuff.
No particular preference which summit for me. They are all potential “completes” if I get my act together and combine a MC/SOTA trip with a visit to the Manx GP.
I presume there are nice tea rooms as well.

15 Alerts in GM for tomorrow!
But is it the most ever? …to the database
So I think 29th June 2021 and 1st July 2021 take the record for most GM activations in a day, with 20. Although this includes a couple of double/triple/quadruple acts on the same summit.
29th June 2021:
- 4x GM/SS-212
- 4x GM/SS-244
- 2x GM/SI-022
- 2x GM/SI-053
- 2x GM/SS-001
- 2x GM/SS-002
- GM/SS-087
- GM/SS-154
- GM/SS-198
- GM/SS-286
1st July 2021:
- 4x GM/SS-280
- 4x GM/SS-286
- 3x GM/SS-211
- 2x GM/SI-145
- 2x GM/SI-220
- 2x GM/SS-007
- GM/SS-030
- GM/SS-072
- GM/SS-094
But tomorrow we are all on different summits, so what’s happened before?
It looks like you need to go back to 26th August 2012 whereby 17 summits were activated of which 14 were unique in GM that day.
26th August 2012:
- 2x GM/SS-224
- 2x GM/SS-228
- 2x GM/SS-274
- GM/CS-032
- GM/CS-066
- GM/NS-051
- GM/SS-119
- GM/SS-122
- GM/SS-133
- GM/SS-140
- GM/SS-168
- GM/SS-179
- GM/WS-001
- GM/WS-140
So tomorrow could be a GM record breaking day!
You need to get out more.
Oh, you do…!
I’m up for 1130 The knock GM/SS-264, 2m, 40m & 20m
I’m up but don’t have 2m only 18, 20m and 40m.
@GM5OLD Tks for the new one Tim

Edit:
Andy @MM0FMF had a good sigs on 17 & 15m CW
It was scratchy, but thank you for the s2s and complete.

Made it up Bin of Cullen (ES-084) but no reports on the tracker!
One S2S on 2m and could hear others but couldn’t work them, another on 40m and quite a SOTAfest on 40m and 20m SSB but by 1245 I was so cold I couldn’t write, think or even remember to press the PTT, let alone operate a key! - very cold and a stiff breeze just made it too cold. If I missed you on 20m (or either of the other bands) my apologies
Not such a wonderful day on G/LD-010 with G6WBS. The wind on St Sunday Cragg was 40mph, gusting to 50. Temperature was -5, and with windchill considerably less. For that reason we decided HF would be a bit silly, so managed 7 QSOs on 2m, with one a challenging S2S to Snafell (GD/GD-001) on the IoM. We did try, but sadly we’re beaten by the weather
Still, the SOTA tracker worked well…
Dave
That was fun and needs to be done again. I missed Barry (never saw a spot in the rush) and missed MM7DCD.
But other wise:
48x QSO, 8x S2S,
30M CW ON, G, GW, GM, EA, F, OH, DL
2M FM GM
17M CW F, EA, OK, EA8, G, SV, DL, SM, OM, OH, SP, OK,
Completes GM/ES-055 Meall Alvie, GM/CS-035 Meall Chuaich, GM/ES-036 Geallaig Hill, GM/ES-025 Carn na Drochaide
I thought 6 of my 2m S2S chases were completes but failing memory as I age meant I had chased some already.
For me I was up at 6am, drugged, fed and out of the door by 7am. -2C according to the car, much ice to shift. Roads were OK, all the main roads I needed (M8/A9000/M90/A94/A923/A93) were gritted and even the very minor B951 which goes from Nowhereville to Nothingtown had been treated. Delays on route were a Hearse (no cortege) and a sponsored bicycle ride that added about 15mins to the time. Lots of windscreen washer fluid needed to clean the salt off the windscreen and I have heated washer jets so they work down to at least -10C
I was fleeced and booted and away by 915 and arrived at the summit at 1016. Sadly the cloud was building so I was in 15% blue sky then it misted up I heard lots of tales of glorious sun, not for me. The ground was seriously hard frozen. -4.5C at the car park so about -7C at the top. A stiff wind meant I hid in the shelter and erected 2 (yes two count them) poles, 1 for HF and 1 for 2m. KX2 and VX170. The shelter did it’s job but I did wear 1 fleece, 1 Polar fleece jacket and 1 Down jacket and my double lined Nepalese hat. Even my feet were comfortable. No interference on 2m or HF from the masts/equipment sheds.
The cloud lifted somewhat as I packed up. Some good views on the way out. Barry GM4TOE always says this is Scotland’s most boring SOTA summit. Could be but the views today were rather nice, I need to process the photos and will post later.
32mins back to the car and warp drive engaged from the B951 to Braemar. I arrived at The Bothy just as Fraser parked up. A nice blether and lunch was had with Fraser, Alex,Chris, Mike & XYL Anne, Simon and Tim
Days don’t Come Better than This
I set off from home at 0845, arrived at the Glen Callater car park at 0930 and was on the summit of Creag nan Gabhar GM/ES-022 just after 1100. Before I could even organise myself, I’d had three summit to summits.
GM/ES-022 is the distant flat top
almost there
Despite -7°C and freezing fog in the glen, and the promise of 25mph winds, the summit was a calm and serene place. I experimentally erected the bottom five sections of my Carbon 6 pole and plonked the 100g yagi on top. I attached the ft-3d and fist mic. to the beam. I operated standing up due to the beam being almost at shoulder height. Turns out, it worked rather well.
the 2m QSO’s
highlighted are Completes
Lots of Completes, with the best of those with @MM7MOX Andy who was on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh. I wasn’t sure there would be a path, but there was, and we both got a Complete from the QSO.
Then on to 40m with the KX2 and 41’ wire. Tim @G5OLD had told me he’d struggled on 40m, but this was an hour later and it was working fine.
40m, and another complete, thanks to @2M0OSB Paul
It was 1215 and I had to pack up and head off on the 90 minute walk, followed by 10 minute drive. Just time for a few more photos.
the HF set up
Distant Cairn Toul, Braeriach etc etc
summit view over to Glenshee hills
The ice had softened in the warm sun. It was T-shirt weather on the way back and I only performed a ballerina manoeuvre once! Still made it down to join the rest of the gang for lunch. Remarkably, we all arrived within about 15 minutes of one another.
A great day and I think it’s the first time most of the GM/ES gang have been in the same room together. Also, thanks to Andy @MM0FMF for becoming an associate member.
What a hoot that was, I’m sorry I missed out on the lunch in Braemar but it was a complete s2s fest today on 2m.Twelve s2s for me and completes on Arthur’s seat and Knock of Crieff. It was only later when txting with Alan MM0VPM I 'fessed up that after over 40 years in Edinburgh, today was the first time on top of Arthur’s seat. I found a spot and set up a bit away from the trig point.
I got a couple of questions about fishing when it was busy but I also had a spell of about 20 minutes on my own on the summit. A rare event I gather for that hill. The questioners were all friendly and amazed at how I could communicate with people so far away.
A grand morning out followed by hot chocolate and cake “by appointment” at the Palace.
Thanks to Fraser for organising this, clearly the “Pied Piper of SOTA”.
Andy

Can I ask a bone question what are the completes? Happy to have helped, nice day down with me but 40m wasn’t great.
Hi Paul,
A complete is where you have both activated and chased a summit (or S2s).
Regards
Andy
