Gisborough Moor G/TW-003

My first activation report of 2026 …

Things have been complicated this year, due to moving “oop North” and renovating a house, so opportunities to activate have been limited. The eighth one-point activation of the year seems like a good place to start reporting.

Gisborough Moor, near Guisborough (?) G/TW-003 is the lowest of the 3 one-point summits in the Cleveland Hills south of the industrial conurbation of Teesside, and the last of the three I have activated this year. As Cathy was otherwise occupied, it was a solo effort.

As I drove North-East and closer to the coast, I became aware of an increasing strong wind and squalls. No matter, I pressed on and parked at the road to North Ings just above Commondale hamlet to the South of the summit. After a bite of lunch, I set off in the teeth of the wind and was mightily relieved to find a shelter in the form of a low cairn at the summit. A few contacts on 2M including an SSB one to regular Mark @G7SXR and a smattering of 40M and 20M ones followed.

Then I noticed some weather incoming, so I packed up quickly and set off down, whereupon it actually started snowing ! Not sleet or lumpy rain, there were real large snowflakes. As I continued down the snow turned to sleet and then stopped, and by the time I reached the car I was already dry.

Thanks to the chasers - that makes 8 activations this year, 8 points but 7 uniques and 3 completes.

Next activations will probably be for Ben @GW4BML’s bash in June

Cheers

Rick
