GI4ONL - First All GI Complete

Congratulations a great achievement!

On to the next challenge…

Many congratulations Victor and very glad you managed to catch Ben on his recent activation after a 10 year wait. However, I am not glad that your splendid achievement made me look at my chasing statistics for GI (we completed the activations over 3 separate visits a few years ago - great fun but hard work!!) so all I have to do now for completes as talk to people who are up the relevant hills - BUT I (stupidly) have a rule that I also have to be on a summit at the time and I want to chase on VHF or UHF with maximum power of 5w. This possibly explains my poor showing with the Sperrins (1 chased/24 summits!!) and S West 1/9 but the nearer ones aren’t much better: Antrim 2/11, Mournes, 10/16, County Armagh 2/5. I can see that I have to ensure I can reach a suitable hill at the right time - and be within audible distance. If I’m serious about this then this will entail many more visits to GI land which is not likely but I hope we will visit again before too long. Wish I could have a go at EI as well but don’t think that that will be likely (unless they change the rules drastically!) Many congrats - how are you doing with GW?

Congratulations again Victor. Thanks also for the QSO this morning on F/AB-393. It was strangely quiet, but then it was perhaps early for many chasers! You were the essential 4th contact and thus my blood pressure returned to normal thereafter, thanks for that.

Hi Viki, GW is well down my list of 509 completes with only 11 to my name, and it’s highly unlikely that I will get any more unless I decide to go to GW again and activate some of the 144 that I have chased.

Regarding EI, I have activated a good number of EI/IN summits but still need a lot of them for completes, however thanks to Ian EI3KT I have picked up a couple recently.

You won’t be disappointed Ben. GI is a great place with great people, great bars, great food and great summits. The contrast of the regions between each other is stark too. AH - SM - MM - CA - SW all completely different to each other.

And then the food and summits are even better when you progress into EI!

Not necessarily.

Long time ago now, but I well recall Jimmy sailing through the Intermediate and Full in contrast with a real struggle to get his Foundation. Like him, you have done a long apprenticeship as an ‘F’ and you will no doubt have much more radio, practical, licensing and operating knowledge than you imagine.

Even if only to visit and activate the wonderful Inishowen summits that we did a couple of weeks ago, it will be well worth it.

Thanks Tom @M1EYP - we will certainly be back to try and complete GI, already made arrangements with the holiday bungalow owners where we stayed :grinning:
