GB2RS News 145.525 FM (UK)

Just a gentle reminder to avoid S21 / 145.525MHz if activating on 2m FM on a Sunday. There are scheduled GB2RS news broadcasts at various times through the day from various locations around the UK. Of course we are entitled to use any clear frequency we choose, but GB2RS is restricted to 145.525 and its scheduled times. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid 145.525 on a Sunday, or if requested to QSY ahead of a scheduled news broadcast, please do so.

It’s also broadcast on many other bands including 80, 60, 40 and 4m so these frequencies should be avoided too. The schedule is at GB2RS schedule.

As a retired Newsreader, Can I bump this please, just to remind Activators again of the polite request that the MT has posted

Thanks all

I know not many use it, 70.425 aswell! on the 4M band…

Its likely a good idea to use this to signpost people towards the GB2RS news sched… https://rsgb.services/public/gb2rs/gb2rs_broadcast_schedule.pdf

its handy to keep in your web bookmarks to keep an eye on the broadcasts!

A bit surprised that the RSGB still clogs up frequencies with the news. As relevant as the shipping forecast on Radio 4.

Couldn’t you find a vacant channel? Careful, the southerners will be getting jealous again! Although I suspect you are exaggerating the impact of GB2RS News somewhat…

Relevant or not, there’s something rather comforting about radio traditions that continue arguably unnecessarily. Shipping forecast - and the airing of “Sailing By” falls into that category, as does tuning across the News on 2m FM on a Sunday teatime. I am still very cross at the axing of the Classified Football Results on BBC Radio 5 Live at 5pm on a Saturday. They’ve updated the format of Sport on 5, and deteriorated the listener experience in doing so! JAG will be turning in his grave.

I thought the biggest value the news provided is the on-air catch up afterwards that lets people keep in touch. That and there will be some people who are still wondering if this on-line nonsense will catch on and keep listening.

That’s it Andy, I always had an after “News Net” that allowed callers to give signal reports ask for a repeat of a detail within my broadcast and then have a rag chew of sorts ,
I enjoyed reading the news especially local news as it informed people of the local club activities and contact details. The fun was controlling the net as I used to get a fair size log of callers in.

It’s another aspect of Radio I miss, along with SOTA and being an Instructor in exam courses.

I am however now having fun being a mobile chaser especially on HF

Yes, I often find its a good chance to make some decent contacts on the 4M band, as otherwise it can be a very desolate place! there are 1 or 2 points of interest on the GB2RS broadcast, i like the rallys and events section… And lets not forget the HF brodcasts go all over the world, so will have some benefit to expats too!
