G6ODU SK

I notice in the latest Radcom that Bob G6ODU is listed as SK in October 2025.

Bob was very active as a chaser, and very often in my log in years gone by. He still shows as number 5 in my top chaser list, even though our last contact was in 2014. I see that his last logged chase was in 2018.

I can still hear his distinctive voice, often the welcome first contact.

RIP Bob.

Bob was a regular entry in my log until mid 2015. Much missed at the time with 119 QSOs and so not long fallen out of my top 25 chasers too. As Adrian points out Bob did have a distinctive voice - one of those you can pick out even if only hearing one character of the call.

Very sad to hear that Bob G6ODU has gone SK. He was a quite regular chaser on HF at one time. More so on 2m and 23cm when I was down in England. It’s a long time since I last worked him and it’s another of the people now SK who I knew through Brian G4ZRP.

I’ve dug out a very old server from pre-2009 vintage would should have a photo of Bob along with Brian activating one of the SP summits. It’s just that SSH keys have changed and I’m having fun (not) trying to log in to my own computer. I’ll post the photo(s) when I get to them.

Condolences to family and friends. RIP Bob.

Sorry to hear that Bob G6ODU is now silent key. I have had plenty of QSO’s with Bob on 2m FM from SOTA summits over the years. My condolences to Bob’s family.

Oh that is such sad news.

He was my VERY first contact on amateur radio after passing my foundation licence, from the summit of GW/NW-051 Foel Fenlli in 2011.

He was so often in my log for several years until hearing problems seemed to take him away from chasing.

We met a number of times, mostly at the Blackpool Rally. But we also shared one activation, I can’t quite remember when.

A gentleman of the airwaves. Sadly missed.

RIP Bob.

Likewise I am really saddened to learn of Bob having passed away. He is in many of my activation logs and it was always a pleasure to hear his voice. I met him just the once at the Blackpool Rally and I can recall chatting in the queue as we waited for the venue to open and seeing him several times during the day as we circulated around the stalls.

Another SOTA friend gone SK. My condolences to family and friends. RIP Bob.

I can’t recall meeting Bob but I had 169 QSOs with him whilst I was activating in the UK and various EU countries between 2010 and April 2015. He lived in Ormskirk and was a notable signal when hearing him from the Lake District.

Sad news. I liked Bob a lot. Lovely chap. A prolific VHF chaser for many years, and always one of the first volunteers to offer for Norbreck duties.

It’s getting to that time where I start planning for Norbreck again. We’re now sadly missing quite a few of the once regular team.

So sad to hear this news. Bob appears in my logs both as a chaser and an activator. He was one of those chasers that’s ‘always there for you’. After so many contacts it was great to meet up with him at Norbreck many years ago.

RIP Bob G6ODU

I’ve not been able to find the photo of Bob on SP-007 (I think). I’ll write the story another time as I don’t want to divert the thread. Suffice to say what started as a simple quest to power some old servers and disks turned rapidly into a comedy of errors dealing with software from ancient history (2010!!!). Much like a Harold Lloyd film that started innocently enough I end up up in a real mess of getting nowhere fast but not hanging from a clock face, though it felt like it.

I am annoyed I cannot the picture of Bob, but I did find about 30-50 photos Brian G4ZRP had taken and sent to me of our joint activations that were not saved in my photo archives.

Sorry to hear the news, that is the loss of a dedicated chaser.

OK it took nearly 2 weeks but I finally found the photos I had of Bob G6ODU out activating.

Bob, G6ODU on Ward’s Stone.

Bob G6ODU on Pendle Hill.

Sadly the EXIF is corrupt in my photos but the file creation date is July 2012 and then I thought check the summit history! He did both with my late friend Brian G4ZRP in March 2012.

RIP Bob.
