G/SP-017 - Billinge Hill

On the way back from dropping Mrs M0VAZ at Blackpool for a 10pin bowling weekend, I decided to activate G/SP-017 - Billinge Hill
Parking in Beacon Road at the far end and then a 15min walk to the summit.
Weather was dry with some winter sun and damp ground.
Got setup over by the trig point, spotted and then cracked on with 2m.
A total of 28 contacts in around 35mins - thanks chasers.
From the summit

Trig point behind me

No real issues with the masts but a couple of people did say one or two transmissions were distorted and then after that appeared OK.

Kit:
2m Ladder line antenna fed with RG58
FT-857
5m Telescopic mast
Zippy 4200mah battery

Cheers

Thanks for the contact John it was raining here, weather looking fine for you :+1: for the photos 73Mark

The ft-857 has much better filtering than your handheld. Similar to you, I’ve never had issues working near masts with mine.

Hancock gave the only valid way to describe if it is raining over amateur radio is using the time worn phrase “It is, ah, raining not here also!” . But in your case it was.

If I may take this opportunity to issue an official warning to the uninitiated…

John’s photos suggest that Billinge Hill G/SP-017 is a nice pleasant summit.

It isn’t.

Its not the best looking summit, but it is an easy walk for 1 point. Easy to get to with as well.
I think this is the 2nd easiest summit I have, 2nd to the Great Orme.

Good to work you Mark, it was a struggle early on but I think you said you had moved and then signal came up - was it Bala you where in?

I was on a bit of high ground on the east side of Bala lake.
