Quite a quick activation due to it being a flying visit while passing, I hadn’t spent a lot of time preparing for this one, and as a result brought the wrong battery, one that was a little low. This caused a few issues with both my signal strength and the ATU. In addition the high winds, operating alone and a number of curious spectators made things a little fraught.
I managed to get set up by 13:30 with a G5RV and my FT857D, and made 11 contacts in the 30 minutes before I had to pack up and dash off. Fortunately the activation point is a very short walk from the car park, making this an easy one to do on the fly.
In my haste to make it a quick activation I didn’t get a photograph of the equipment set up, so I grabbed a few quick shots before packing away.
Hopefully the two summits I plan to do over the XMAS period will be longer activations, weather permitting.
