Freshly minted aircraft scatter participant

Congratulations to Geoff VK3SQ for his achievement in completing his first 2m SSB aircraft scatter QSOs.

Today Geoff worked Al VK1RX at VK1/AC-039 (257 km) and separately myself at Mt Stromlo VK1/AC-043 (269 km), using aircraft scatter propagation on 144.200 MHz USB.

Geoff also made an aircraft scatter contact with Chris VK1DO, (281 km) home station.

Thanks Geoff for taking an interest in 2m SSB Dx.

That is pretty impressive :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::airplane: Nice work @VK3SQ!

That’s great, and I bet they got a great feeling too.

Was it a random A/S contact, or did you use prediction software such as Airscout ?

I find running a log+KST+Airscout just to much to handle on a summit with my simple touch-screen tablet. Not to mention the data usage on my PAYG ‘phone.

That’s excellent. Great work Geoff! :flight_departure:

Definitely not random. A little planning around timing and the use of ADS-B Exchange to monitor commercial aircraft positions. Zero use of prediction software rather more an application of previous experience in regular aircraft scatter contacts.

Homebrew DL6WU 4el 2m yagi antenna construction occurred a fortnight earlier.

The east coast of Australia (Melbourne-Canberra-Sydney-Newcastle-Brisbane) aircraft corridor is a honeypot for aircraft enhancement contracts.

It helps a bit if you have a chaser with Airscout and KST (or WhatsApp) who can tell you which way to aim and when

How much do you spend on your phone? I get 5gb for £5/month with Lebara which is plenty for me but I rarely hotspot a laptop off it.
