Took me a while to figure out who Alf was. Marmots are clearly the Canadian equivalent of rock hyrax.

In reply to M0LEP:

There are a few different types of marmot’s found in the Canadian Rockies…I believe Alf was a “hoary marmot”. Sorry…maybe I should have explained the name “Alf”…comes from an old comedy TV show about an alien that likes to eat cats living with a family…his nose had “rings” on it…which was why we called the marmot “Alf”! We also saw a blue grouse on the trail…Pat was leading and it “displayed” for him puffing out the red cheeks but ran off before a picture could be taken.

ALF (alien life form) was the nickname of the little general Allan Langer in Australian Rugby League, apparently his team mates thought he looked like an alien. btw - alf was shown on UK tv.

I wasn’t sure if the Alf show was shown across the pond;) I just uploaded a few cropped jpgs of Alf the hoary marmot on the link shown in earlier post. Let’s you get a better look at him!

I see you used an En Fed antenna with at least one pole. What kind of height did you achieve & was only one end raised. How effective was it?
I am on the look out for better ideas than my 1/4 wave vert for 20m & 12 radials

Hi Walker…I used a Jackite pole which extends 20’ and sloped the EFW down to one of my trek poles at the operating position and tuned with a EFHW tuner kit by Stu KI6J. It worked well on 20M…I did rig up for 40M using an inverted V config with the Jackite pole in the center and ends again run out to my trek poles. An easy rig up but takes up quite a bit of room on top of a summit. The 40M ant tuned well but after 10 minutes of CQing with no replies I called it a day. Worked TX,CA,AZ,IN,GA on 20M.
