The northerly access road for FL/VO-010 (Le Grand Ventron) is closed to motorised vehicles. Besides a no entry for motorised vehicles sign and a barrier across the road, a sign also states it will re-open in 2027, seemingly to coincide with the reopening of the Chaume du Grand Ventron lodging.
I do not know whether the parking can be reached from the South or whether this approach road is closed as well.
Good question. The first and last time I activated this summit was in 2022 and I approached it by car from the North (see also my picture with the unclear plaque on sotl.as).
I guess it’s fine to drive from the South to 47.95602,6.92195 and look for a parking there.
If you want to be sure, please contact Armin @DL6GCA who was there in June and knows the Vosges inside out.
Have fun in the Vosges and please share your knowledge on SOTL.AS, Thanks!
On 8 May 2025 the road from the north was indeed closed. Access from the south to the parking at 47.95986414778642, 6.9208850556291255 was no problem at that time.
Yesterday I made a detour and took the southern approach road which is fenced off approximately 150m from the start of the trail.
A path parallel to the road has been created and can be accessed via some steps.
A demolition and rebuilding job of Chaume du Grand Ventron is in progress.
Using the closed Northern approach road from the barrier (47.97471,6.93405) on foot or bike will add around 2km.
