First SOTA close to home from PA/PA-006

I have been doing plenty of WWFF activations, this is my first SOTA. It certainly is more adventurous! From my home town it is a nice bicycle trip along the river Rhine towards Arnhem, a 50 km ride. From the outskirts of Arnhem it is less then one hour to Signaal Imbosch, the highest point in the national park Veluwezoom at 101 meters.

Close to the summit my path got blocked by a couple of dangerous looking Scottish highlanders, but they were quite relaxed and I saw several bikers passing them.

The last stretch I had to push my bike through the sand and up a steep path. The summit marker was easy to find and was enough space between the trees to put up my 20/30m vertical.

Good propagation and 61 QSO’S in the log after one hour. It may have helped that my activation was both valid for SOTA and WWFF. Four S2S contacts! Equipment: QMX mini and a 30 Watt amplifier. Have been using a Palm mini paddle.

Thanks for the SOTA complete.

Welcome to SOTA and thanks for the S2S!

Highland kye are quite docile unlike the belties (Belted Galloway) which have quite a reputation!

Thanks Richard, I am glad we could complete our QSO!

Nice to work you!
I feel close to PA, my son works in Amsterdam, in IT.
One day hope to come there and activate all the PA summits

The Observant is a far ride for you by bike. But if you ever get there, I see if I get a chance to come-over. It’s a short car drive from home.

Hi Martin,

I am thinking of activating D’n Observant together with Noordelijke Terril Waterschei in Belgium during a 2-day bicycle ride. Will let you know when my plans are ready! :+1:t2:
