F/AB-001

Hi friends,

Tomorrow, Aug 7th, F3CJ and F6BXC will leave Saint Gervais to climb the Mont Blanc.
They start at abt 0700 with the little train TMB to reach “Le Nid d’Aigle”. There, they will switch on their APRS and you will be able to follow them on F3CJ-2. They will sleep (will they ?) in the “Gouter” hut.
They should reach the summit on sunday morning.
They are QRV only VHF, but I’m sorry, I have no more information. It seems that they will use a pocket FM, so, few chances to make a QSO…

Good luck to Joël and Daniel

Hello Andre,

Are you back home ?
Hope you will give us good news about your spine !

Now about climbers: their APRS is not on yet. I hope all is OK for them.
We may follow them on APRS usual websites and here:

Best 73 ! and I wish you soon on PO summits

In reply to F5UKL:

Another great ascent today !
Having a look to Upcomping Activations, I see that S57ORG is climbing AM-001
"La Barre des Ecrins", a 4100m summit.
It is the most popular summit in the Ecrins, a very difficult climb, a 150m vertical wall covered with ice.

It seems that the ETA is a little bit late, but good luck to Marko.

In reply to F6ENO:

Do not hear S57ORG here. Good luck to both expeditions. I guess the MB expedition will take the Arête des Bosses route

Pity that I have an swim/bike/run exercise tomorrow morning at Nyon. Otherwise could monitor the two meter band.

In reply to F5VGL:

Yes Jaakko, they take the ‘normal way’

Good luck for your ‘triathlon’ tomorrow, may be you can bring a pocket ? (not in water…

Hi Alain,

Approximate time plan would be useful. I can of course check the APRS tonight and tomorrow morning. MB can be seen from here in clear weather conditions

Approximate time plan would be useful.

Usualy, they leave the refuge of “Gouter” at 0300; I think it needs about 5 hours to reach the summit (via Vallot shelter), so you may switch on your radio at about 0800.
There is no APRS track fer now; I hope they save batteries for tomorrow.

May be you will be the first AB-001 chaser ? I hope so !

In reply to F5VGL:

APRS track on now !
They are on the way.
(But not on the shortest…)

Last info:
Activation failed.
Marko has been on the top of the app. 9 UTC.
CQ 15 minut on 145.500 and 145.575 MHz. No QSO.
Temperatura was - 10 degrees, high winds blew it.

Now located on the grounds of a mountain.

73, Zvone S57PZ

In reply to S57PZ:

Sorry abt the info Zvone.
But I’m not very surprised. There are not too much hams in this region.
He should ask me before, I have a lot of frequencies for there and he should
give an alert on a repeater.
But glad he reached the summit; it’s a very nice and hard job !

Now abt AB-001:
The APRS was stopped at 17:43. So, I suppose they are in refuge du Gouter.
The track shows only one point… may be a bug ?

PS: My last post; I’m leaving for 10 days. CU from South of France summits

In reply to F6ENO:

MAJ-3: Ils n’ont pas pu faire l’ascension finale à cause du mauvais temps. Donc après une journée au refuge Valot ils ont fait demi-tour évitant tout risque.

If I get it right they had to abort the tour at the Vallot shelter at 4362m asl less than 500m below the summit due to bad weather. What a pity! But a great effort nevertheless…
