Yesterday I spent an incredible day in the mountains and in Sota with Luca Iz0Fyl that I want to share with you. For the last activation of the year we chose I/AB-318 Monte Velino with a height of 2487 meters, a serious and imposing mountain that can be reached with over 1500 meters in altitude of walk. The day was beautiful, the lower part of the valley was under a blanket of fog while the sun was beautiful on the Velino.
We reached the top in about 4 hours, we found in the last parts of the ascent a lot of ice and snow and above all a very strong icy wind at the top. Despite this we set up a row with a fishing rod, connected my Elecraft Kx3 and did some qso (me 6 and Luca 4) on 20 meters in Ssb.
The wind was so strong that there had to be two of us to operate, one listening and writing and the other calling into the microphone. All truly splendid, after activation we went down towards the valley and we arrived at the car when the sun had already set, dead tired but happy with over 7 hours of walking and a truly unique day in the mountains and radio.
