Ennerdale in the Lake District (UK) SOTA

Two great days walking with four SOTA summits thrown in for good measure.

Parked at Honistor Hause (National Trust CP which is free to members).

South over Grey Knotts, Brandreth, Green Gable to Great Gable (G/LD-005). Then turned NW (steep and loose descent) to turn W onto Kirk Fell (G/LD-014) then north (even steeper descent) before turning W to Pillar (G/LD-006). Very long and steep(ish) descent NW to cross a stream. At this point it all went to pot… horrible route down through the woodland which was very wet and boggy. Then W along Ennerdale before crossing the foot bridge and back E to Ennerdale YHA for the night.

Great hostel, vastly improved since my last visit.

Next morning we left the hostel and did the very long climb NE up to Red Pike and then High Stile (G/LD-012). Continued ESE along the ridge over High Crag, Seat and Hay Stacks, before turning NE to Dubs Quarry (nice bothy!) and then back over the Honistor Hause.

Two great days.

Thanks to the chasers on 2M FM on the fours hills.

Hi Gerald
Thanks for sharing the photos and the viewranger links, looks like you had two cracking days for your trek. Started using the app myself after you mentioned about it on an old thread, great for planning searching for routes and much easier to use between different devices.
