A friend has signed up for SOTA but has not received his confirmation email. He’s tried resending multiple times but has still not received it. Not in his spam/junk folder. Are there any known issues with new user verification at this time?

Yes. The system is sending him emails but his email provider thinks SOTA is spam. He will need to use the Contact-MT facility so we know who, what, where and when and can help him get registered.
It’s an absolute pain the backside and Andrew VK3ARR has been jumping through hoops trying to make our email server look honest etc. Some companies just cannot provide effective email services for their customers particularly ARRL, btinternet and Comcast. Those three are as much use as a chocolate teapot to be honest.
