Elecraft T1 no longer wants to tune

Hello everyone.

After many years I have a few problems with my Elecraft T1 tuner. It no longer wants to tune. When I press and hold the PWR/TUNE button, only the yellow LED flashes - as an indicator that it is not tuning but only displaying the output power.

I first thought the battery was flat and changed it, but it didn’t change anything.

And sometimes, when I hold down PWR/TUNE, nothing happens at all.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas as to why this could be?

Thank you in advance.

I’d check the following.

Buttons are functioning (i.e. go to 0ohms when pressed.
Soldering of buttons to PCB.
Cracked tracks around buttons.
Soldering on BNC connectors
BNC continuity.
RF detector wiring (there’s a small toroid I think to measure the incoming RF.

The functionality of the 2 push buttons can be easily checked by switching between TUNE and BYP mode (maybe several times …)

You could also repeat the test measurements and performance tests in the assembly manual, which are carried out when assembling the T1.

Hello Heinz @HB9BCB. Thanks for the info. Switching between the buttons seems to work, I can hear the relays when switching. I’ll have to read up on testing and calibrating. I bought the T1 fully assembled at the time.

Andy @MM0FMF. Thanks to you too. I think it goes in that direction. If I hold down the tune button and nothing is connected to the BNC socket, it goes into tune mode. However, as soon as a BNC plug is connected, it no longer works. So that’s probably the fault. I replaced the sockets some time ago, maybe something has come loose or something similar.
