Not SOTA-related so hoping I don’t get a hiding for it. Thought folks might like to see the recording of a live stream event yesterday that was conducted in Dublin with schoolchildren, TUD and the ISS.
Just thought folks might like to see the event, the questions and the struggle with Doppler!
Great to see the next generation of potential radio amateurs getting involved. All about encouragement and inclusion.

NOTE: The main contact segment begins at around the 50 minute mark.
Thanks for sharing Ian. That could suprisingly be SOTA related. Eg. I’ve found it good to have a satellite gear with me as a backup for remote sites and also worked via ISS repeater several times from summits.
As to the event itself, I really enjoyed to watch and listen through! A great result for all involved and some extra promoton of the hobby!
Thanks! The team did really well there even with pesky Doppler at times. Events like this one are great for hams, but I think the real value is in the delight the children get out of the experience.
Nothing like getting involved in such activities to give the next generation that potential spark of interest that could last a lifetime.
No room for gatekeepers and gout (leave that carry on for 80m!). Get involved!
Thanks for sharing, its a great way to get kids interested in radio communications.
GW0VMW and I planned a SOTA activation to coincide with a special crossband 2m/70cm weekend with the ISS nearly 20 years ago. We were on a summit in the Lleyn Pennisula but unfortunately they were having technical difficulties so no contact was made. On my way home there was one pass left of the weekend so I was monitoring while mobile, to my surprise I heard the ISS calling.
I pulled over and worked them on my car mobile using a simple 5/8 vertical. The doppler shift was very tricky to follow, a Belgium station sent me the audio of the ISS speaking to me.
