EA Sota weekend event, 26-27-28 Sept 2025

Hello,

I’m glad to announce the first edition of the EA SOTA weekend, scheduled for Friday to Sunday 26 to 28th September.

Mainland Spain and its islands (Mallorca & Canary isl.) are organized with 9 mountain associations (EA1 to EA9).

The EA SOTA weekend is held by encouraging to activate in as many regions within the existing EA associations as we are able.

No fixed times are stated, so keep an eye on alerts and spots in Sotawatch web page. You’re invited to chase us!! Registration is only required to EA activators.

Our goals are:

  • Have an annual celebration of the stablishment of SOTA in Spain, which started back in August 1st 2010

  • Promote using as many bands (HF -V-UHF) and modes as possible and get local & international contacts

  • Generate chances for S2S summit to summit QSO between the EA activators

  • Facilitate the knowledge of SOTA scheme and their associated rules

  • Enhance relationship and friendship among the SOTA participants

  • Invite the Ham community and newcomers to access and participate regularly in the SOTA scheme.

We hope this is the birth of an annual event that provides fun and lots of QSO.

Details and information can be reached at this website :

If you travel from abroad and feels like participating as an EA activator, consider registering in the website form. Else, you can always participate chasing us from your country!

Great, Ignacio!

I’ll try to schedule those days, although weather conditions could be decisive.

We’ll be in touch.

73!

Generic alert posted for the best Antipodal S2S times - any interest at the EA end? 17m and 15m look to be the best chances. We will have 50W and 1/2 Square antenna on those bands.

Hello Geoff,

Successful Antipodal S2S, according to past experiences, would happen around 07:00 on Saturday Sept. 27th, by 14 MHz Long path, maybe later on higher freqs SP.

Let’s see if there’s any chance for any EA to meet with you.

I’m alerted a bit later but will open my ears from the shack! Better chances on CW.

Ps: JA SOTA QSO Party also alerted this weekend.

Hello,

Just a brief note to confirm the EA Sota weekend starts tomorrow, Friday 26th.

A lot of EA ham have already planned and alerted activation, and a list is now published in the web (scroll down):

It seems we’ll have a lot of fun on the bands!

Did I mention we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the start of SOTA in EA?

Hear you on air, good luck all

Hello,

After the end of this special event and the upload of all the QSO, I summarize the results.

We were lucky and had a good weather in EA during these days, making it possible that many portable ops could do their activation.

Here we can highlight the relevant data of the weekend:

Activated summits: 78
Portable Operators: 59 (EA) and 3 non-EA (AD6VT, CT2GVH, DB7MB)
Activated associations: EA1, EA2, EA3, EA4, EA5, EA6, EA7
Activated Regions:
EA1: CR, LU, OU, PO, AT, LE, CT, BU, SG, AV, LR
EA2: BI, SS, VI, NV, ZG
EA3: BC, TA
EA4: MD, CU, BA
EA5: CS, AB, AT
EA6: MA, ME
EA7: SE, MA, GR

The three days allowed the operators to arrange and schedule their summits.

Thanks all the participants for this warm welcome in the first edition of the event.

Let me share my own experience: I had the pleasure to do a joint activation with Manuel, EA2DT, who agreed to come with me to EA2/NV.151, a comfortable summit with a bench, a rare luxury not so frequent in our summits.

Day ws shiny and calm, so we could run our radio by turn for almost 7 hours!

Many chasers and S2S were surprised to contact Manuel from a SOTA. We used as many bands as possible and stayed til late to get the chance for some DX.

At mid morning EA2CCG, Joaquin, came to visit us and he did his activation in VHF.

We used a KX3 and EFHW antennas and used a solar charger to keep the battery of our phone and log alive all the time. The foldable solar panels were useful to shade our transceiver!

A very nice day to say hi to our friends.

We are looking to repeat the event next year!

Thanks 73 Ignacio
