Last night I had a vivid dream about reading an activation report on the reflector about Chanctonbury Ring, G/SE-009 which included photography of some very snowy scenes.
I think I can explain the dream by having seen this photo late last night
and by the fact that I have a fondness for G/SE-009 as it’s the first summit I activated and have been back every year since.
The only other SOTA dream I can remember is one in where I was being forcibly marched onto an aeroplane in order for me to attend a cw boot camp in Spain! Sadly I didn’t make it as far as the boot camp in the dream. I often wonder about that one. It was after a day of activating. Had I been been making a particular mess of correctly copying the callsigns from EA?
I wonder if anyone else has had any SOTA dreams that they can recall?
No but I find 2 or 3 large glasses of Tequila and a cheese sandwich does wonders for dreaming. None make sense, some bizarre and some are disturbing. Most are not suitable to discuss on here.
I often have trouble going to sleep the night before a SOTA trip. One time I did not sleep for about 38 hours from when I woke up the day before. I am not a good camper either and often don’t sleep well in cabins or motels I hire when away on SOTA trips. Bring on the dreams in my case.
Take care CZ…
As far as I know, everyone dreams while they sleep… Unfortunately, I can’t remember my dreams in the morning. …
But sometimes, when I’ve had a day with an activation, the beautiful images and moments of what I experienced that day go through my head and are very present. That always lets me fall asleep quickly and contentedly.
At almost 84 with a damaged back and a bum knee having a SOTA dream would be about the only way that I could activate a SOTA site. I’ve read some of the articles on here and have to admire the stamina and strength of the activators. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. W6LEN / Jess
My dreams seem to consist solely of gear that tangles / fails / takes forever to sort out / set up as the urgent (but never clearly understood) deadline passes …
Never dreamt of SOTA. But do spend endless nights of sleep running traplines, tracking tunnels, surveys etc… or more generally failing to get as far as running them.
Thanks Ron, I am doing just that and have found 3 in my area that fit that requirement. I will be trying them soon. Hopefully W6LEN will appear as an activator running 100 watts (ICOM 7300) with a CHA-TDL antenna and a Bioenno Battery. de W6LEN Jess
Hi Jess,
I’m not longer able to climb peaks but had a great day in the mountains on Monday. A two hour drive each way and on the summit on air for 4 hours. I used a flower pot vertical on 10 m and a 20 m end fed for 40 m and 20 m. Power (70 W) was from a 30 AH LiFe battery.
