But not with UK stations. In the UK 8m is not an amateur allocation and so you cannot have QSOs with them, even if you are transmitting on an amateur frequency. You are allowed to have cross band QSOs with foreign stations, as long as 8m is an amateur band there.
Innovation and Trials licences are not the only way to transmit on 8m in the UK. It is also possible to make use of it as an ISM band, but the power is limited to something like 10mW.
