DO NOT :-

Morning one and all.

Was trying to work the EA8 Sota this morning on 10m SSB.

Called in and when he replied the signal had QSB so far down I can no longer hear him.

So I sit there and LISTEN, yep he,s faded out big time.

Then some wallie pipes up with my call sign saying I got a 5/7, :rage:

No No NO

DO NOT REPEAT THE REPORT ITS BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE SOTA ACTIVATOR

Had to await another 10 Minutes before his signals rose again and made the contact.

End of day thanks to BIG QSB and deep I could not reply to something I can NO LONGER HEAR. In My books if I can’t no longer hear him exchange is not possible and reports exchange is not possible hence NEG contact.

END OF DAY DO NOT REPEAT REPORTS BEING EXCHANGED BY THE ACTIAVTOR AND THE PARTY HES JUST REACHED …

Yes Karl, still happens from time to time, a nuisance for sure. Never had it happen on SOTA CW Chasing though.

Hi Carl,

It’s very annoying. The offender is trying to be helpful but is ignorant of the requirements of contests and activities like SOTA. It is the correct etiquette for nets but not much else.

I do as you did, wait and hope the band improves. Then initiate another contact.

Oh and I explain to the interject or that third party assistance is not allowed for SOTA.

How do you feel about a third party relaying the summit reference, which is optional, unlike the signal report?

Hi Elliot,

I don’t care. It is public information that pops up on three of my apps so hearing a third party repeat it on air doesn’t mean much. Hearing the activator give the reference is nice but not much added value.

My reference won’t pop up on your apps, because I do 99% s2s and can’t alert.
