Didn't let the door get me on the way out...

Today was my final day of work for the year, and what a year. I lost my job in June, but as it happens got a contract immediately and left before my notice period, then did 6 months without a break, then started a new job after the contract at the start of December. It’s been a long, thankless slog.

So the minute our wrap-up meeting had finished just before 2pm today I was out the door. With the forecast being horrid for the Lakes in the next few days I took my chances with Pike O’Blisco, G/LD-024, a firm winter favourite as it is an hour’s ascent from Wrynose with a healthy 6+3 points.

This time I was sensible and left HF at home with no realistic prospects based on the wind and associated chill. Road conditions were good, temperature before hitting the pass around 6 degC and no precipitation forecast. The ascent was windy but otherwise uneventful although the conditions are testing my current clothing choices, to be revised. I did finally get around to adding my emergency bothy and foil blanket to the rucksack, with a headtorch if needed.

Difficult to stand up directly in the wind on the summit, but there is shelter to be had on Pike O’Blisco. Thankfully there were enough folk to qualify, always welcome to get that final fourth contact to make it all worthwile!

Herdy!

I hope the forecasters are wrong and I can get out again before Christmas! Thanks to the chasers.

Great photos of the old country.
Well done on weaving your way through the employment cycle, Think the shortest time I was between jobs was 2 hours and the longest was 3 weeks. But was lucky to have work for 50 years and now able to relax and get out on SOTA amap down the retired end of my life.
