You’re but a youngster Fraser so it is from a time previous to your entry in the hobby. That’s doesn’t mean to say there aren’t still a sizeable number of people with the “Klarsays” mentality.

That humorous article is really quite old as it doesn’t mention G6, G1 and G7 calls. G8 was issued from 1964 to 1979. Then came CW McCall and Convoy and suddenly everyone had a chicken box which promptly caused many CBers to get licenced and the entire G6 allocation was issued in 3 years! G1 lasted longer to the late 80s, then G7 lasted till 1996. You can see the CB boom tailed off as did interest in the hobby hence the slower issue rate of new calls.

You’ll find G6s are rare, their interest in the hobby was high so a lot quickly upgraded to G4/G0 calls. Another significant number were young and their career development and/or starting families ate into their ham activity time so they dropped out. Working a G6 should be considered working DX :slight_smile:
