Dartmoor.

I wouldn’t say this summit was the best for playing radio (I’ve had better), but it’s close by and good for testing (when I say testing, I mean it’s good to see if I managed to bring everything that I need on an activation HI).

First thing I thought of when you said Ice Cream head was Douglas Hurd on Spitting Image.

Nice snaps and report!

Gosh - now that’s something I’ve not seen for AGES! Brings back childhood memories.

I’d like to have my own hair too (even if it were gelato shaped). :joy:

Douglas Hurd - 1

Hi, thanks of the S2S QSO today. It was me, MW0ECX on SW009 and I’m a Neil, so it really threw me when you called for a ‘S2S, Neil’ and followed your QSY suggestion, when you were really after the Neil on Pen Y Fan. I did eventually have a QSO with Neil on Pen Y Fan though  . It was ‘uffernol o oer’ today (**** cold). 73

S2S contacts are the absolute BEST. It’s the most exciting bit for me so thanks for the contact. :ok_hand:

My honest appraisal would be something like: ‘colder than an eskimo’s *rse’.

Hi Omar,
Glad to see you on the hills but our timing missed for another S2S.
What is in the blue box with a heatsink cap and mosfet ?

Argh! I remember seeing you were going to be out, but I can’t remember which day. Do you still need Staple Hill for a complete @G5OLD ?

The blue box is my LDO board (linear regulator) - I feed it power, and it simply gives the radio 12.0V. I wasn’t keen on using junk from AliExpress.

PS My LiPo charges to 13V - plenty of poke for a few activations. :ok_hand:

Great report and great humor. Congratulations on the QMX build. It’s one thing to build it; it’s another thing to get it to work.

Never had ice cream head because of weather; only because I ate ice cream too fast.

Thanks for the great reports and I loved the snowy pictures from your G/DC-001 activation!

Well done for braving the elements!

Heard you calling and working another station on the south coast i think, but despite a few calls I obviously didn’t have quite enough power to be heard your end. I’d had to abort my summit on Waun Rydd due to my companion having a wobbly moment on the ascent, so i tried to do some chasing from the car park. Was a cracking signal from you both though! Welcome Ed! Thanks for trying - it’s all part of the fun (ice cream optional).

I’m sure philosophers in the SOTA community can make something of this phenomenon: Knowing you were heard, but you heard nothing…

Neither of you have heard me swearing HI, but I’ll take it. Thank you!
