Croaghmore EI/IS-104... Apologies

For those chasers waiting to work Dave EJ/G4ASA/P on the rare Croaghmore EI/IS-104 Great Blasket Island today.

I’ve just spoken to Dave on the phone and he informs me, that after a one and half hour ferry trip, and a walk to the trig point, then setting up his station, the FT-817 refused to fire up. Dave sends his apologies.

Due to the WX and time of the year, it’s unlikely there will be another ferry out to Croaghmore this year.

Dave plans to activate more EI summits over the next couple of weeks, if he can get the rig sorted out.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info… really gutting for Dave, big thanks for the effort.

Thanks Mike for the information. I suspect the air was blue around Dave with expletives when the radio didn’t work. I don’t think apologies are needed - just the one of those things that happen.

Hi Mike / Dave

No problem, these things happen. I know many of us were looking forward to an s2s with Dave but it was not to be.

Looking forward to the next time when Dave is in EI and thanks for that s2s today Mickey.

I saw the spot
Fri 10:57 EJe/G4ASAe/P on EI/IS-104 24.950 ssb
*Spot[G4ASA]: sri cancelled rig not working (Posted by SMS)
And I was thinking that’s really a pity that it didn’t work out for him… Next time better.

PS what was the problem with the radio ?

Hi Tonnie

Not too sure, but the power lead/socket may be the culprit. He’s staying miles from the nearest big town. However, I think he’s just managed to borrow a multimeter and soldering iron.

Thanks for all your Comments. The problem turned out to be broken wire in the Fuseholder. It was broken between the end of the insulation and where the wire was crimped, not visible to the naked eye. New non crimped Fuse holder now fitted and working. Back home I always have two Power Leads with me but foolishly only brought one with me. Lesson learnt.

Have been told that the weather is looking ok next week, so there may well be another chance to get out to the Great Blasket Island, if it comes off will post an alert as early as possible.

Other Summits are also available in the next two weeks.
