Planning on doing Cadair Berwen tomorrow. I’ve read that the access road up to Tan-y-Pistyll is ‘long and narrow’! Can anyone who knows it give an opinion as to whether I’d likely be OK getting up there in my 6m Ducato camper?
I’m quite happy driving narrow roads ( I live on one) but I don’t want to get caught out if it’s impossible in a vehicle that size
Cheers,
Getting there as earlier as possible is a good idea. I think I got there 8.30-9am the last time I went that way, didn’t meet anyone. For the last 2 activations I’ve gone via the westerly route.
I hope to chase you! 73 John G0MHF.
Thanks, John. I’m aiming to be on the road for 06:30 tomorrow so should be there before 10:00 but we’re also out with friends tonight so that plan may not quite happen!
In the event of a late start, I may do something smaller tomorriw and do Cadair Berwin on Tuesday
I’ve driven an Extra Long Wheelbase High Top Transit van up there. No problem. The issues are all about the VOLUME of traffic on busy days causing gridlock when the passing places become congested with vehicles coming in opposite directions.
You’ll probably be OK on a Monday… good luck!
Alternatively park at the top of the Milltir Gerrig B4391 and walk along the ridge to the summit. There’s plenty of room to park roadside.
Map below. It’s a very pleasant walk, which I actually prefer to the route from Tan-y-Pistyll. But of course you don’t get to see the waterfall before you start.
