Cabezon

We, meaning Mike, KE5AKL, and I, are looking at the possibility of activating Cabezon this coming Thursday. I bring it up this way because this is a quite special location and activation which may not soon be repeated. Cabezon is a famous (in New Mexico) peak, a large and prominent volcanic plug. Ascending is a significant climb of 2,000 ft, somewhat precarious. If we do manage to climb it, hope to make some contacts! Go here to learn more about this feature:

Looks like the mountain which was in close encounters of the third kind.

Yeah, it’s a very similar geological structure, but the movie location was Devil’s Tower (W7/EW-097) in Wyoming: Devils Tower - Wikipedia

Good luck activating W5/SM-019, Fred and Mike, and a safe climb, too.

Yes, that was Devil’s Tower, and yes, it is a similar geologic feature, somewhat smaller.

Plans are moving forward. It does look like thursday, and may be 1800z-2000z on 14.060 +/- if all goes well on the climb.
