Bouvet Island 3Y/BV-001

Sorry to report that although SOTA created a 3Y Association in 2018 and appointed an Association Manager for Bouvet Island, no one has yet to activate the summit of Olavtoppen (3Y/BV-001, elev. 780M=2559 ft ASL), the only SOTA peak on this remote island in the South Atlantic Ocean. It appears that the 3Y0K team does not intend to occupy or traverse any part of the glacier during their planned February, 2026, DXpedition, so there will not be an opportunity to work what may be the most remote SOTA summit in the world. Unless one of the helicopter pilots could be persuaded to make a side trip during their 21 day stay…Hihi.

Stay well & 73!

Hi Mike,

I’ve had a look at the summit contours and satellite images of the summit.

I think the below pilot might find it hard to safely land in the AZ.

The landing licence may not permit incursions beyond the coastal flats. But it would be fantastic if it could be done.

So all they need is an amateur with extensive skid-hopping experience. Let me check my diary …

It’s been activated many times, it’s just that the test harness deletes the activations after it’s done
