That was always going to be the case. :100:

Unlike gear, where most people will have an opinion, whether they have owned/used it or not, every activator will have an opinion about the boots they used over the years, and what worked for them - and most are keen to share it!

Many make/models are not geared towards wider feet, others are not suitable for those with a high instep; so it’s all very personal and a make/model which may be the perfect for one, would not be a good fit for someone else.

The OP wanted recommendations for leather boots up to ÂŁ125.

I have had a variety of leather boots over the years; most - but not all - were a bit more expensive. All of them being waterproof initially, lost his over time, despite regular maintenance.
All of them though became like slippers moulding around my feet.

This is less so with my synthetic boots, which I find stiffer in general, but I now favour as they require less maintenance and found them to remain waterproof for longer.

I couldn’t think what to buy my wife for Christmas a couple of years ago. She had started doing a lot of walking but didn’t have proper boots. In typical lazy bloke style I went on Amazon. I saw a pair of ladies boots for £45 and thought “what have I got to lose?”

Anyway, she absolutely loved them. She’s hardly had them off her feet and done hundreds of miles (maybe >1000). They are as of now still showing no signs of wear and tear whatsoever. She hardly ever cleans or waxes them either!

So I’ve just bought my new boots the same way, the same make. Mine were £69. So far I find them excellent. I will be delighted - and amazed - if they last as well as Marianne’s - but I’m hoping I’ve uncovered a genuinely high quality and amazing value make of boots!

The make is “Northwest”. They are waterproof, grippy, robust, and very comfortable. The only thing I don’t know is the longevity - but the signs from Maz’s boots are very promising!

So I use British Army boots bought of ebay. For summer I have a pair of Aku Pilgrim. They’re not made in Italy as the AKU civilian one are but they’re great, fit like a glove but only come in one colour, brown. For winter I use Altberg defenders, proper leather, great support and available on ebay, in that one colour; brown.

I use the Ex MOD all leather brown boots, mine are made Altberg. They are sturdy and have great grip on those gravel and shale tracks.

Plenty of polish or dubbin keeps that morning dew at bay. I found them a bit heavy, initially, but after a few wears they are great.
