Billinge - sorry!

Apologies to the people who were calling me without success when I was on Billinge Hill, G/SP-017, yesterday afternoon. The receiver of my Wouxun KG-UVD1P was completely swamped and desensed on 2m by the commercial signals from the 4 masts on the summit, so I could only copy the strongest signals. 70cm was unaffected, but I could only find one station to work on that band.

I did manage 4 QSOs on 2m, including Brian G4ZRP on the Wirral. Thanks, Brian!
I have not experienced comparable breakthrough problems at any other site.

You need a Trio 2300 or a Yaesu FT290 MK1 for places like Billinge Walt.

Yes, older rigs do seem to perform better in areas of high RF pollution, but I have found the FT-817 is pretty good in that respect. This is the first time I have had a problem on the Wouxun, but I gather Billinge is one of the worst hill-tops for RF breakthrough.
