Associations updates 1st August 2024

These are the updates for August.

W1/EM

4 summits in W1/EM (043 to 046) had names and elevations corrected. Also a small correction to the position of W1/EM-046.

EI/IS-121

A tiny position correction taken from LIDAR. But it’s SO steep the old position was outside of the AZ.

ER, Moldova

This is a new P100 association. Thanks to ER1SKI for taking the AM role.

KH8, American Samoa

This is a new association. Thanks to K0NR for taking the AM role.

Acknowledging Openstreetmap contributors for the base maps used in the above images.

LA/TM-290

Name corrected.

Looks like the database or sotadata has an issue with the AM name (character encoding) ?

Thanks for the update

YBS - Indonesia - Sumatera

YBB - Indonesia - Bali

Two new associations for Indonesia, at different scales, Sumatera (Sumatra) and Bali, with 2,300 summits in Sumatera and 38 summits in Bali. A significant proportion of summits will also qualify for VOTA as well!

Sumatera:

Bali:

These should be uploaded in the next day or two. Thanks to Mawan @YC1ME as AM, and Warren @ZL2AJ who did a lot of surveying for the YBS summits.

With 9M2, 9V1 and the other YB associations, South East Asia is becoming a very summit dense region!

Yes, not all fields on the database are UTF8 and we update them as we go along. This should be resolved along with the other uploads.

It’s known about. The encoding is still in essentially just ASCII for that table and needs extending to UTF. It’s reasonably simple but not been done yet.

Also there is an outstanding update to the PA AM name/email.

Some EA1 tweaks now in place.

PA AM email updated

I have not yet tweaked the DB schema to be UTF8 for AM names. I want to test that locally and the reload the file first before changing the live DB. It’s coming…

Thanks Andy and thanks to EA1 AM Juan, EA1AER, for pointing out the omission.

Please note that the EA1 update includes a new summit, EA1/LE-283, Peña de San Pedro.

Please just make it in simple latin encoding, i.e. “Octavian Scerbatchi” - this is how I am on QRZ and erverywhere. Also, in the area description, please fix the capital city as well - “Chisinau” is fine.

One more thing please: can one edit the area square polygoin, to comprise the whole country, not just a part of it as it is now. Looks so weird now.

That’s very generous of you. We will update to using UTF8 for AM names and the region info one day but it’s one less thing to do and test right now. I’m updating my club’s website and deleting old domains, cleaning up GB of old server files, moving domains between registrars etc. Something that should be straightforward but it is nerve wracking when you click that “permanently delete this domain from the host” just to ensure I’m deleting the old domain and not the one we’ve just setup! So only having to change the characters to ASCII is just one less thing to go wrong.
