Association Updates 1st May 2026

W4C

W4C/CM-164 is being replaced with new summit W4C/CM-194. This change will proceed on 1st July.

There were various other tweaks, including a name change for W4C/WM-021 from “Tusquitee Bald” to “Signal Bald”. This actually reflects a position change, with a swap from the former high point to its neighbour. In this case the Tusquitee Bald position is anyway still in the revised activation zone and is still just as valid a position to activate from as the new HP.

W4V

W4V has had a refresh from Lists of John and also a reduction in required topographic prominence from 500 feet to 492 feet (150 m). There have been 23 retirements, several of which have been replaced by near neighbours found to be higher, alongside some other unique summits. There is a net overall increase by 7 summits.

W8V

W8V has likewise had a refresh.

In this case only one summit has been retired - W8V/NR-060 - which looks to have had its high point mined away. There are 11 new refs.

DM/RP-494

Please note DM/RP-180 points are still broken. The issue is not fixed yet but do not worry. If you have activated it when it gets fixed your points will return.

There may be some other summits that have been retired and resurrected that do the same,

Thanks for your work to implement the W4V update. It hasn’t even been a week and, by my count, five of the newly added W4V summits have seen a total of six activations and one completion!

I myself activated two of them on Sunday. Both were true new ones rather than effective relocations, and both are listed as having prominence over 500 ft and therefore could have been on the original summit list, had better data existed at the time.

In any case they served as the occasion for an enjoyable drive and an interesting bushwhack to places I wouldn’t otherwise have gone.

Thank you for all the work that goes into these updates.

Living in W4V, but also activating in W4C and W8V, I’m very grateful for the efforts to keep the summit data accurate and current, both locally and around the world.

It is very much appreciated.
