Arthur Seat - GM/SS-272

While in Edinburgh I activated Arthur’s Seat - after obtaining permission from HES.

Parked in the car park near the Duddingston Loch and then proceeded up the grass bank to the roadway above. Along the road and then up the well trodden grass path to the top. Stopping part way to admire the view (and not for a rest…honest)

Navigating the people descending the hill and those who stopped to take pictures. I made it to the top…a very windy top. But what a view!

I found a place just below the trig point on some rocks and tried to setup the 10m vertical…but the wind had other ideas and then the vertical element snapped.
At that point I decided 10m was a bad idea and went to plan b.
Plan B was to operate 2m… Putting a spot out on 2m I called CQ and got a total of 4 contacts and one contact was the lady who originally activated the hill.

From the top

Job done, time to depart the hill before I am blown off the top!

Cheers

Funny! I had exactly the same. But I got Ken before Christine… both the original activators. I’ve been chased by both several times in various places. But nice to ge them here.

Nice report. Windy old spot, but what a viewpoint.

I activated a summit on the west cost (GM/NS-073) and I literally had to crawl to the summit cairn on hands and knees, standing was not an option!

That comment evoked memories of when Paul G4MD and myself activated Tinto GM/SS-064. A very bad weather day coupled with a very very bad radio day… I needed HF courtesy of Paul’s set up in order to qualify the summit… and the next one! Never happened before or since - totally bizarre. :unamused:
