Apache Peak Activation W6/CT-249 (7,566')

Apache Peak from Apple Valley TH was a 11.5mi hike with 2,800’ vertical ascent, I’d rate it difficult. We did this 8 point SOTA activation of W6/CT-249, and made 27 QSO’s on 2m, 20m, 40m. This is on the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) CA sec B at miles 168.6-169.2. Note: This trail was 2mi longer than AllTrails web site, as confirmed using Strava and the AllTrails Apps.

Used the Anytone 878 with Arrow II 140-3 yagi, and a Yeasu FT-891 with 20’ TacMini telescoping mast, and home brew dipole, back up radio was a Baofeng UV-5R.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for taking us along. Great to see a totally different landscape to what we have here in mid Europe.
Seeing the cactus and dry bushes give the impression it is super hot. But long sleeves, snow patches and gloves show that it is early spring. Very interesting.

Keep them coming.

Very useful video. I lived in that area, but I did not know about this trail. What video camera did you use?
