Anyone combine motorbikes and SOTA?

Hahaha, AirBnB and hotels are silly money! Time to get the tent out

I don’t really ride motos much anymore. No enough time to do long distance trips, which is what I’m mostly interested in, so I sold my big bike. Wife is selling hers right now too. One day I’ll get back into it. That being said, I kept my DRZ400 which I’ve done nothing except abuse and neglect.
It doesn’t seem to care at all.

Sierra Pelona - I think this is just under 100 miles round trip from my apartment in Los Angeles, most if it through twisty mountain roads. A great ride!

County Line Hill - Summit is in the background. I brought the moto up to this mountain range on my van and camped for several days, hiking and activating several summits in the area.

Sheep Mountain - You can’t see the summit from here, but the elevation where the photo was taken is somewhere around 10,000 feet. I thought the bike would struggle, but it did fine without a noticeable loss of performance. I’ve had other carbureted bikes refuse to idle at 6K feet so this was surprising to me.

Here’s a picture of the ST955 with GM/WS-178 in the background after activating it today.

So, last summit for this MC/SOTA tour, GM/SI-020 today. I had hoped to carry on over to GM/SI-023 afterwards, but found the ground really difficult and the ascent very steep, I didn’t have the legs for it. I did have a good day at the top with the radio, including an unexpected s2s to Dale, MM7EPQ/P on GM/WS-329 near Kishorn on both 2m and HF. The summit wasn’t visible from where the bike was parked today just the view across to Glenelg.

Another MC/SOTA outing to GM/SI-129 today. This was plan D after the plan A boat trip to Seaforth island (GM/SI-192) didn’t happen and the backup kayak transport was cancelled due to wind strength. Plan C Clisham GM/SI-012 but that was in the cloud. Despite the wind it was a very pleasant sunny afternoon at the top and I spent a couple of hours playing radio. I had Qso’s on 40m, 15m, 17m and 2m. The views were spectacular, out to the West St. Kilda was just visible on the horizon. The beaches and hills around were glorious in the sunshine.

Hi Mark,
Not sure what your final plans are for your Autumn MC/SOTA tour of the Highlands. I will be off on a weekend trip to Plockton 23/24 September with my MC buddies and hope to activate a couple of hills. Current plan is GM/SI-092 and GM/WS-117, but these will be weather and ferry dependent. Maybe we can catch some s2s if our trips coincide.
