I’m thinking of activating this on a quick visit to Portugal next month. Does anyone have any tips and tricks and suggestions for routes?
Good luck and enjoy Bryn !
My only advice is everyone will want to work you. So you can get away with only taking minimal kit and a short antenna !
It looks like there is an airport at the top so you can just drive up and operate. There are some big antennas but the activation count is 45 so they can’t be a big source of QRM. CT/BL-002 is about 3km away and also looks a drive on but there appear to be big broadcast towers there. Again a high activation count so it can’t be too bad. The report for this says the road is not in the best of conditions but you’ll be in a hire car
Apparently disused, given its rather odd location it’s probably ex military as an emergency divert field (although I have nothing to confirm that). Hence a good road that has fallen into disrepair?
Can’t see a single UK activator visit… in fact it’s almost exclusively CT call signs.
I am sure I read the airport is used in the summer for firefighting planes.
I’m not sure why there are such a relatively small number of UK hams who have activated in CT. Portugal is just gorgeous to visit, the food, wines, countryside, weather and people make it an ideal destination.
