It’s already been written about on here that Jim G0CQK is taking a step back from the excellent job he has done quietly in the background for many years, that being Reflector Sign-up Moderator.
He has been explaining to me what he would do as we have approved requests to join the reflector. But it’s probably time we had more than one sign-up moderator. Now I am going to be joined by my MT colleague Christophe ON6ZQ which will give 2 European based moderators. My MT colleague Josh WU7H will be involved as well, concentrating on the Americas.
SOTA is now a worldwide activity and here on the MT we continue trying to ensure we get worldwide representation on the management. So we are specifically looking for another two people to join in this process. We would like another person based in the Americas, that is North, South or Central America. We also want someone from the Asia / Pacific region.
The job involves checking the person requesting reflector access is who they say, more detailed info on how we do this will be given to successful applicants. In the beginning it will be along the lines of checking the applicant and saying to an internal discussion group that the application should be approved / rejected with someone on the MT actually pressing the approve button. But eventually they’ll be doing it themselves, stand alone. To be able to do this will involve the news moderators getting full reflector moderator/admin status and so we’re saying this up front, we will do vetting on applicants to ensure they have the “right-stuff” to be given such access rights. And all admin actions leave an audit trail the other admins can read and check to see what you are doing
If you would like to help maintain the community we have on here by becoming such a sign-up moderator then send me a PM. If we divide up the world into 3 regions like the IARU does, then probably regional moderators will maybe have 1 application to check every 2 days or so.
