Just passed through busy security at Edinburgh airport.

Leave everything in bag. Straight through x-ray with no search.

Had a laptop, FT817, handie, two LiPos, power bank, garmin, spare phone in the bag.

They’ve got the new 3D X-ray scanners at Edinburgh nowadays.

Also at Aberdeen, however when we left for Barbados, there were specific instructions to take toileteries, laptops etc out of bags. Given the amount of electronics I was carrying, I left them all in. No issues, no search, no swab.

No search, no swab, no glove? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Cheers Fraser, updated to add Aberdeen and Barbados to the list. Also, nice one on 145 Alive day, fair play to you braving the weather it was atrocious.

EDIT: Thanks for the below, Victor. OP updated.

On my recent trip to Cyprus, Belfast International Airport have the new scanners, everything left in the bag and no questions asked. On the return from Larnaca I just put everything, (radio, spare battery, laptop and GPS), out in the trays and once again no questions asked.

Cyprus - a beautiful Island but if flying through Pathos rather than Lanarca, a couple of tips to the wise,

  1. car rentals from companies in Pathos are a lot cheaper than at the airport
  2. on the return journey do not arrive early to the airport as there is no self-service bag drop, the check-in desks only open 90 minutes before your flight and there is nowhere to sit in a very cramped departure area.

Thanks Ed. Noted.

We’re flying to Lanarca with BA and will have checked on luggage.

During the last trip WAW-RMO-WAW, in Warsaw, items were placed on trays without any questions, whereas in Chișinău, there was no need to open the backpack and no questions were asked.
I had 3 Li-ion battery packs (3S1P).

Hi Ian,
Please add Birmingham UK (BHX) to the list with, like Munich, no need to remove radio from bag and most interest shown to the 4Ah battery rather than the radio.

Old scanners

Ft891, 2x Lipo batteries, 1x tablet.
Security guy said they might want to ask questions about the radio but everything through first time and no issues with anything.

Tablet keyboard, coax/antennas have caused problems in the past so they went in my checked bag.

I wonder what caused yesterday’s security alert at Gatwick Airport. Could it have been SOTA activators with lithium batteries?

MANchester UK. Terminal 3 yesterday.

For the first time in a VERY long time I didn’t get a bag selected for search/explosive swabbing.

I took the Lowepro case that holds all of the main radio gear out of my rucksack. This holds the KX2 and the 4.2 Ah LiFePO battery.

Same for Android tablet and phone.

Not a squeek this time.

New scanners so everything left in my bag - it was rejected 3 times. They wouldn’t tell me why, only that the computer said it had to go through again. On the 4th time computer said yes - they didn’t look inside the bag.

Atlanta, Belize City
Old scanners so radio stuff and laptops taken out. Everything passed first time.

Miami (concourse F)
Old scanners, so everything taken out but travel pole in bag.
Bag rejected due to travel pole - they opened my bag, looked at the pole for a while confused, then handed everything over to me.

Puerto Rico
Old scanners, travel pole taken out and put in tray. Everything passed first time.

Miami (concourse D/checkpoint 5)
Old scanners (they had a new one but it wasn’t being used). Travel pole in checked bag, everything passed first time.

Heathrow T5
New scanners. Posters up everywhere saying laptops/electronics needed to be taken out, liquids bag had to be out for inspection then passengers being shouted at for not leaving everything in their bag
Bag rejected due to the metal spiral binding on my log book. They swabbed it which came back OK :person_shrugging:
