I found out today that the Adiemod Turbo 6000 Executive Edition Ghia is now the Award-Winning Adiemod Turbo 6000 Executive Edition Ghia! ![]()
I received news today I am the recipient of the Folan Shield award at the IRTS AGM held recently.
Professor Enda Folan EI6W, who was President of the Society from 1958 to 1960, presented this shield to the Society. It is awarded for home constructed equipment built to the highest standard.
Super chuffed to have been awarded such a great prize for my little love letter to the Yaesu FT-290R and just wanted to share the news while also thanking Adrian @G4AZS again for the inspiration to me to want to build such a silly contraption! Thanks Adie!

That’s great Ian, we’ll deserved! ![]()
They say it’s a small world. Well I still can’t believe what happened today.
Literally pulled up at the 2026 IRTS Hamfest this afternoon behind a bloke driving the same model car as myself and we parked alongside each other at the side field.
Bloke gets out of his motor. We chinwag for 5 seconds.
A mere mention of 270 CW and FT-290R’s and a pause…
Turns out the bloke stood in front of me is none other than the legend himself. The messiah of the 290R…
It’s @G4AZS !!! ![]()
MInd, truly and utterly…BLOWN.
A privilege to be in the company of the man responsible for the Adiemod! A pleasure to have a 2 metre and a 70cm QSO with you sir and pride of place in my logbook!
(well, that and about 2 seconds later when the Dublin Hackerspace responded to my CQ for our QSO with EI0WOOF
- I hope you got the SSTV images to collect of the TOG Dublin cats too!).
Safe travels back to the UK good knave, and I hope you have a brilliant stay here in EI. ![]()

I was thinking that I might meet you there, but I didn’t expect you to be the first person I met when I got out of the car. Maybe the magic box does have special powers!
I have to say that it looks even better in real life than in the photos, a fun project for which I can take no credit at all, you are too kind. The dual band dx QSO across the showground was a triumph too.
It was a great day, I met lots of interesting people, and managed not to buy any of the goodies on offer - except for an IRTS mug as a souvenir.
Thanks Adrian, glad you liked the Adiemod Executive Edition! I had my FT-290R with me yesterday as well. Just thinking I should have used that now for our QSO but I wouldn’t have had 70cm then. Still, all good fun!
Glad you had a good time. When we got there it was closer to winding down so a lot of folks were wrapping up. The main day I think was Saturday.
One big change from last year was the void left in the trading hall by Long Communications. Raymond Long retired earlier this year and with that went the very last bricks and mortar radio shop in Ireland.
There are other avenues for goods I think, but I am unsure what those are, just stuff I’ve heard at the water cooler. Massive loss but maybe a new business may emerge, even with a small sub section of radio goods as their stock?
Oh and one thing I saw later on in the dying embers of the trading hall (after it had probably been rifled through already on Saturday!) was a 30w Microwave Modules VHF linear! It made me think of the Adiemod and the two Microwave Modules amps I already have - the 25w and 40w ones. I nearly bought it to add to the set, they are such great little amps! I would have only needed the 100w one then to ‘complete the collection’ - unless there was a 200w one?
There was some ISS live demos there which was good. I really must get cracking on a Yagi for satellite work.
There are some EI jamons with mind-boggling VHF/UHF/SHF setups that folks here would probably be super interested in. Microwave is one of those paths I would love to get involved in but know very little about or where to even begin (so I subscribe to Dubus to learn more!).
Still, it is a lifetime hobby so (hopefully!) many years left yet. SHF CW next? ![]()
