A5 Closed near Chirk

For anyone travelling between the Midlands and North Wales.

Yesterday (Monday) afternoon there was a serious RTA on the A5 Chirk Bypass, at about NGR SJ300375. It is reported that the road is still closed and is likely to remain so for several days yet. The signposted alternative route takes traffic through the town of Chirk and is causing long delays.
You may consider a longer alternative route, perhaps via the A539 on the N side of the Dee valley to Llangollen, worth using.

Drive carefully

The Police appear to be very aware of the dangers of this part of the A5. Last month I noted a dark coloured unmarked police car in the lay-by on the northbound carriageway just the Welsh side of the border which had a camera mounted at roof level. This was when I passed into Wales en route to activate Y Garn NW-037 - the time was 05:50, it was still dark, minus 3C and snowing, so they are obviously taking the matter seriously.

Take care all
