A SPECIAL SiOTA ! (F5LKW/p & F5HTR/p)

Dear Friends,

May be, you have already seen our funny video last time ! In order to find some inspiration for next production, my brother (F5LKW) and me (F5HTR) have got an idea : going on a special SiOTA of 1 point only ! We gonna activate a special SUMMIT in the south of France ! But what is the particularity of this peak ? This is a IOTA (EU-095) and also a SOTA (F/CR-268) !
We will reach this Island-summit by sea kayaking ! About 7 km to row in the mediteranean sea !
The départure will be soon in the morning from the Calanque of Callelongue in Marseille.
When we’ll arrive on the island, we’ll climb to the summit (190 mtr) and activate it for IOTA and SOTA program. The hour is approximative, we don’t know yet how long it will take.
Due to sea and weather conditions, We will operate very short time in qrp on 7.032 MHz in CW only. We will keep you inform about our intention the day before after consulting the maritime meteo.
So hope to contact you soon and ask you to be patient for your lap ! There will be a lot of radio stations and may be lot of qrm.
For this special event, we will make a QSL, it will be available via the REF buro or direct.
Best 73 to all !

Chers amis,

Cordialement

This sounds like a terrific expedition. I wish you both all the best with it.

The day before, Jimmy M3EYP (my son) and myself (M1EYP) also plan to do a family - island - SOTA expedition on Mynydd Enlli SOTA GW/NW-072 / Bardsey Island IOTA EU-124. This is after a pair of summits in Snowdonia on the Saturday: Arenig Fawr GW/NW-011 and Moel Llyfnant GW/NW-018.

However, we may have to put the expedition back a while. I don’t much care for getting wet in Snowdonia, and have suffered such a fate too often in the past. The weather forecast looks as though there may be showers on Saturday, although Sunday looks better. So still in two minds.

Back to topic, your expedition to the French island and summit looks very exciting, especially with the kayaking (Jimmy and I will reach Bardsey Island on the foot ferry!). I hope that there will be videos and photos, as well as a report for us to see.

I hope to work you on 40m CW too, but expect to wait a long time in the pile-up!

Good luck,

Tom M1EYP

In reply to F5HTR:

Hi Bob and Roger

Good Luck with the IOTA/SOTA trip.

I am disappointed that you will not be operating /MM from the Kayak on the voyage to the island!

In reply to M1EYP:

I thought that most of the UK activators are operating from IOTA EU-005
