A nod to SOTA in Dartmoor's latest guide book.

Sophie Pierce, a writer and photographer, was visiting High Willhays to research one of the 28 tors in her new book. Rock Idols: A Guide to Dartmoor in 28 Tors

I was activating High Willhays G/DC-001 when she happened to walk past the summit.

Sophie was not only interested, she appeared to know what I was up to - asking if I was broadcasting. She was keen to include our encounter in her book, so we exchanged contact details.

I’ve just received my pre-release copy. I’m very pleased that there are a few paragraphs in the book about amateur radio, and most importantly, a bit about SOTA.

It’s good for amateur radio and SOTA to have a little bit of exposure, particularly in a book about the outdoors.

Out of respect for release dates, copyright, etc, I won’t be sharing the book’s contents… (but @G5OLD has seen the relevant parts.

Fingers crossed some people think about it. All you need is a seed.

Quite a journey to get my first ever summit in the bag. Seeing an article in an outdoor magazine, or reading about it when researching an epic hike would have got me here a lot quicker.
