I think I would feel too claustrophobic inside a bothy bag without any windows. In winter or adverse weather my Terra Nova Bothy 2 is small enough and light enough (270g) that it always gets to go. I can just about sit up L-shaped in it but imagine that I would get uncomfortable quite quickly operating an HF radio and paddles.
I often wish – once I’m at the summit – that I had taken my DD Hammocks tarp (2.8m x 1.5m), poles and ground sheet (1300g). It’s not tall enough for me to sit upright but it does allow me to rotate between kneeling, lying on one leg or on my back propped up. But I ask myself: Could it double as a bothy/survival bag so I don’t have to take both? [Any experience of this, please advise].
My Vango Banshee 200 Pro tent would afford the most comfort but its big size and weight (2350g) confines it to the occasional wild camping activation (summer only at my age) or daytime SOTA events like the Transatlantic S2S Party last November where it proved itself in high winds.
